Frequently asked questions
All our most commonly asked questions about our residential swim camps and coaching days, in one place.
Residential Swim Camps
Where are the camps located?
Our MMSI Classic Camps take place at Repton School, Derbyshire, while our MMSI Elite Camps are hosted at Bishop’s Stortford College, Hertfordshire. Both are outstanding boarding schools with world-class facilities designed for high-performance swim training. Visit our Venues page for full details.
What’s the difference between Classic Camps and Elite Camps?
Our Classic Camps at Repton are designed for ambitious, club level swimmers aged 9–16 who want to develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy a balance of high-quality coaching and fun team activities. They are held twice yearly in the easter and summer holidays.
Hosted every October half term, our Elite Camps at Bishop’s Stortford College are aimed at experienced swimmers aged 10–18 who are ready to train like high-performance athletes, with smaller groups, advanced workshops and Olympic-level coaching. Swimmers will learn what it really takes to be an elite athlete.
What is the cost of camp?
The full cost of both camps is £795, which includes:
- Prestigious accommodation and three meals a day
- Two daily swim sessions with expert coaching
- Strength & conditioning, psychology, nutrition and recovery workshops
- A host of incredible team activities and inspiring visitors
Visit our booking page to reserve a spot.
Are the camps residential?
Yes. Swimmers and staff stay in secure, same-sex boarding houses on site for the duration of the camp.
With 24/7 experienced pastoral care, our residential swim camps provide a safe and supportive setting to maximise swim development for teens.
How old do swimmers have to be to attend camp?
- Classic Camps: Ages 9–16
- Elite Camps: Ages 10–18
If you’re over 16 and interested in volunteering or working on a camp, please contact Meg at meg@mmswiminspiration.co.uk.
Are the camps suitable for beginners or only competitive swimmers?
Our camps are designed for club-level and competitive swimmers, but we also welcome developing swimmers who want to improve their technique, confidence and race skills.
Classic Camps are ideal for younger or less experienced swimmers; Elite Camps suit those with more advanced competitive experience.
Does the camp cost include food?
Yes. All meals are included, beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with breakfast on the final day! Both venues provide three hot meals daily, and the food is always a big hit with our swimmers.
How many swimming sessions are there on camp?
Swimmers take part in eight skilled training sessions during the Classic Camp, and seven on the Elite Camps. They are grouped into three squads, carefully structured by age and ability to ensure every athlete is challenged and supported at the right level.
How do I know what group my child is in?
Upon arrival, swimmers will be told which team they belong to. Details, including arrival times and kit lists, will be included in your parent information pack (emailed around eight weeks before camp).
Should swimmers bring any food/snacks on camp with them?
Yes. While all meals are included (and the food is fantastic!), we still recommend swimmers bring snacks so that they have plenty to eat before and after training.
Our camp schedule is jam packed, so a quick top up snack is often required! Suitable options include: dried fruit; rice cakes; cereal bars; brioche or malt loaf.
Please ensure that snacks are NUT FREE, so that we can keep all our swimmers and staff safe.
Can swimmers bring their mobile phones?
Yes, but they can only use them during downtime. Phones are not permitted during training, workshops, meals or team activities and are brought at the swimmer’s own risk.
Are the pools short course or long course?
All training sessions take place in short-course (25m) pools.
When will I receive the timetable and information pack?
Your camp timetable and information pack will be emailed approximately 8 weeks before the start of camp.
Can international swimmers attend the camp?
Absolutely! MMSI welcomes international swimmers every year. Our experienced team provides a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment for athletes travelling from abroad.
Small Group Coaching
What is MMSI Small Group Coaching?
Our Small Group Coaching sessions offer focused, high-performance swim training for up to eight swimmers. These sessions are designed to refine technique, improve performance and deliver personal feedback so you can progress on your swimming journey with 1:1 support.
Who are the sessions for?
Small Group Coaching is perfect for club swimmers aged 9–18 who want to work closely with elite coaches, build their confidence and fast-track their progress between camps or competitions.
We are experts in swim development for teens, so your child will be in the best hands possible to unlock their full potential!
